God told Jonah to go to Nineveh, but Jonah went the other way. He boarded a ship, and a great storm came. Jonah was thrown into the sea, and God appointed a great fish to swallow him.

Inside the fish, Jonah prayed. God gave him another chance, and Jonah went to Nineveh with God's warning. The people repented, and God showed mercy.

Jonah was upset that God was merciful to people he disliked. The story helps children talk about obedience, second chances, and God's compassion for people beyond our favorites.

Lastman's dramatic sea scene suits Jonah because the story moves between storm, prayer, and mercy.

Key Lesson
